How do I wash and care for my Global Knives correctly?Updated 2 years ago

To keep your Global Knives in sharp and good condition it is recommended that you wash your knives by hand using a mild dishwashing liquid and plain water, immediately after use. Rinse with water after washing and dry thoroughly with a towel. Global knives should NOT be put in the dishwasher as doing so could damage the sharp edges should they come into contact with other objects in the dishwasher. In addition, exposure to the extreme heat and powerful detergents found in dishwashers can be harmful to the CROMOVA 18 high carbon stainless steel. Washing your knives in the dishwasher will also void your Lifetime Guarantee.

The reason why other (lower quality) stainless steel cutlery does not mark in the dishwasher is because it has a lower carbon content than Global Knives do. The high carbon content in the Global CROMOVA 18 stainless steel is required because this allows for a much sharper edge to be put on the knives, but does require more careful handling and washing. A quick wipe after use should be sufficient, or if greasy/fatty, warm water to melt away the residue, along with a mild soap like Sunlight or similar and a cloth (not a scouring pad!) should be used. Leaving the blade wet or unwashed, especially after cutting acidic vegetables and fruit such as tomatoes or citrus, for any length of time could result in discolouration and spots.

They may be able to clean the stain off with a stainless steel polish or any similar product. Polishes should be non-abrasive or chemically aggressive (i.e. not Handy Andy or similar and not applied with a scouring pad or brush that could damage the finish).

If your knife is not stored or cleaned correctly, you may find that brown stains can start to develop on it. General household stainless steel cleaners are available and any of these can be used to remove rust from your stainless steel safely.
